Excitement. Intrigue. Mystery. Wonder. Magic.
None of these words would accurately apply to me. Which I’m very pleased about!
I’m (officially now) in my mid-30s and have two sons, Thomas and Frederick.
I don’t really like having photo’s of myself out there, but I get that it’s part of the gig.
We’re working really hard to keep the kids out of the internet for as long as possible, so you won’t be seeing any of those cheery family snaps, shot on an angle in the golden hour.
But trust me, they’re very cute.
And cheeky.
If I were living a life of leisure, then I’d spend most of my time with them and my wife, Meg, indulging in activities as thrilling as going for a walk, running around a playground, working in the garden or simply watching TV.
But we don’t, and I have the rather fortunate pleasure of running my own financial advisory practice, PlanningSolo.
We’ve always helped people with their insurances, superannuation and investments, but my practice is focused on helping going through life’s big transitions, particularly divorce.
There isn’t a huge number of spare hours in any given week, but if I get a chance I’m out in the garden, digging holes and cursing snails.
I also have a habit of buying cheap old pieces of furniture to restore, though the time between purchase and completion seems to keep blowing out.
Barring any decent finds there, I’ve been known to tinker around with hand tools and timber until something vaguely useful appears.
We also have a big, complicated, (noisy), family, so for a few afternoons a month we’re all together, wrangling kids and cooking food.
No matter what I’m doing, though, there’s music playing. I love most popular culture, but nothing is quite as ingrained as music in my life.
A life without music…well, that’d be bloody awful.
In the words of one of my closest and cleverest friends - “that’ll do”.
